kings and mediaeval bishops for 900 years and
flourished until the early 17th century. Brian Ború
was crowned King of Munster here in 977 and he became
High King of Ireland in 1002. The significance of this

Day
3 Sunday February 20 Cobh
Heritage Center, Jameson Distillery, Blarney Castle
After
breakfast at the hotel visit the Cobh
Heritage Center. Learn about “Emigration &
famine”. From 1848 - 1950 over 6 million adults and
children emigrated from Ireland - over 2.5 million
departed from Cobh, making it the single most
important port of emigration. This exodus from Ireland
was largely as a result of poverty, crop failures, the
land system and a lack of opportunity. Irish
emigration reached unprecedented proportions during
the famine as people fled from hunger and disease.
Continue to tour the world famous Old
Midleton Distillery, home of Jameson Whiskey.
Tour of the old distillery, tasting and
drinking of Whiskey. Continue to visit Blarney
Castle, built in 1446 as a defensive fortress.
The Castle which stands today is in fact the
keep of a much larger fortress.
All visitors should kiss the famous Blarney
Stone, high up on the Castle battlements.
Tradition holds that those who kiss
the Blarney Stone will be endowed with the gift of
eloquence – “the gift of the gab” as the locals
call it. Opportunity for shopping at Blarney
Wood Mills. You will be amazed at the selection of
Irish gifts, music, crafts, woolens and more at this
spectacular store. Rest of afternoon at your leisure.

Day
4 Monday
February 21
Muckross House &Gardens, Killarney
After breakfast we head west towards
Killarney. Opportunity
to hike the
Killarney National Park or visit Muckross
House & Gardens,
situated on the lakes in Killarney’s National Park.
Muckross House is a magnificent Victorian
Mansion and one of Ireland’s stately homes.
The elegantly furnished rooms portray the
lifestyles of the landed gentry, while downstairs in
the basement one can experience the working condition
of the servants employed in the house.
Or you have the option to spend time at your own
leisure. Killarney's
tradition of entertaining visitors began over two
centuries ago. Tales of the legendary lakes and
mountains surrounding the town initiated a wave of
tourism that continues to this day. The town's charm
is retained in the curious old-style shop fronts and
brick footpaths, while luxury hotels offer the most
modern facilities. There have been many unsuccessful
attempts at town planning in Killarney since the 18th
century; the maze of lanes and oddly angled streets
that have resulted lend the town a truly unique
flavor, offering the visitor a surprise at almost
every corner. Dinner on your own and overnight at Killarney
Towers Hotel , Killarney (or similar).
(B)
Day
5 Tuesday February 22 Ring of Kerry

lakes, valleys, seacoast and bogland, interspersed
with colorful villages. Dinner on your own and

Killarney. (B)
Day
6 Wednesday February 23 Bunratty Castle, Cliffs of
Moher, Burren
After
breakfast depart Killarney. First stop visit to
Bunratty Castle
& Folk Park a well preserved Norman castle.
The first castle was built by a Norman, Thomas
de Clare in the 13th century.
However, the story of the site goes back to
prehistoric times and it was the Vikings who first
established a settlement here in 950AD.
In 1954 Lord Gort bought the castle and with
the help of Bord Failte restored it to its present
condition. He
also installed the finest collection of medieval
furniture in the country.
The crafts and skills of the self-sufficient
Shannon community have been revived in the same
grounds, the Folk Park.
Travel northwest and visit the Cliffs of Moher. The
cliffs boast one of Ireland's most spectacular views.
On a clear day the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay, as are the valleys and hills of Connemara.
These fantastic cliffs have been the subject of many
songs written about Ireland. Travel through the
Burren. Famous
for its Lunar-like Limestone landscape and its unique
flora. About
20 species of Orchids grow wild here. Check in to your
hotel and some free time in Galway. Dinner
and overnight at Imperial
Hotel Galway
(www.imperialhotelgalway.ie)

Day 7
Thursday February 24
Connemara Circuit, Kylemore Abbey
Today enjoy a tour of Connemara,
some of the most rugged scenery in Ireland. Visit to Kylemore
Abbey (http://www.kylemoreabbey.com/).
Kylemore
Abbey's greatest attraction is its location. Nestled
at the base of Duchruach Mountain on the northern
shore of Lough Pollacappul, in the heart of the
Connemara Mountains, it is regarded as one of
Ireland's most romantic buildings.
Return to Galway “City of Tribes”. Galway
is the capital of the West of Ireland. The streets and
buildings of this ancient town have many interesting
features. The compact city
center, with its winding streets, packed pubs and air
of celebration, is easily walked - or pub-crawled
The city of almost 70,000 is home
to merry bands of students, artists, writers and
craftspeople. Recently,
the city centre of Galway has been closed to traffic
in order to allow for the enjoyment of the city's
narrow shopping streets. Dinner
on your own and overnight at Imperial
Hotel Galway (www.imperialhotelgalway.ie)
